BOOST THE LIBIDO - BLOW IN MY EAR AND I WILL FOLLOW YOU ANYWHERE

The loss of libido happens to everyone at one point or another.  Let's chat about that today.  There are several causes from stress, to trauma, to hormonal changes and more.  I don't have space here to cover all of those causes so I am going to give you a few simple techniques that hopefully will help.

Several years ago I was speaking at a convention of the contractors involved in Boston's BIG DIG. It was held at the Newport Marriott Hotel in Rhode Island and I was speaking on stage. I heard a man in the third row joke to his wife sitting next to him, “I wonder if she has a point to boost your libido.” Well... I take good cues in my presentations so I decided to go with it with a bit of humor.

As I was in a navy blue double breasted business suit with a little turtleneck sleeveless shell underneath and getting warm from the spotlights I paused to take my jacket off and place it on the chair that had been provided for me. But first I addressed the man in the third row.

“I heard that question. Let me say it louder for the rest of the audience. This gentleman would like to know if there are any acupressure points to stimulate the libido.” The audience laughed and jabbed one another. I continued, “Well yes there are.” I then slowly unbuttoned my jacket and removed it to the chair.

His wife screamed, OH MY GOD SHE IS GOING TO SHOW US!”

“Yes I am.” I laughed. But the acu-point is on your ankle. It is hot up here. I am ONLY taking off my jacket.”

The point that I demonstrated to the audience is KID 6. Other points on the kidney meridian may also be used. The easiest one to simulate are located on the leg but for now let's remind you of the location of K6.  This picture is from the post about INSOMNIA and not being able to sleep because you feel BUZZED.  K6 is where the thumb is pressing in this drawing.

And remember the point for WATER RETENTION, K1? That point can also be used. It is located on the bottom of the foot.

Here is a great explanation of using acu-points for the sex drive. Watch the first half of the video for the information. I would record a video for you to watch myself but I am on the road in South America at the moment. Dr. Sacha Landreneau, owner of Hillcrest Community Acupuncture presents the information fabulously and in a fun and easy to understand way.

Along with the kidney meridian Dr. Landreau refers to the Conception Vessel. You can massage points on that meridian in a gentle circular motion to increase libido.  These points are located slightly below your navel and to the pubic bone.

Another point that you can use in located on the ear. It is called the Bosch Point. The simplest way to stimulate it is with the tip of your finger. You can also use a blunted toothpick, or...dare I say your partner's tongue.

Quoting Rowan and Martin's Laugh In
“Blow in my ear and I will follow you anywhere.”

Oh and please note that boosting the libido is not just button pushing in an instant.  It can take some time.  And as for the Bosch Point please beware.  An hour or so after stimulating it an explosion of feelings can come.  Do you want that in the middle of the street or during a meeting?  Noooooo. A wise person once said, "Don't heat the coffee when there is no one there to drink it."

There it is – Have fun.

MUSCLE SPASMS - DRIVING IN PAIN

So you get into your car and are ready to go and you twist around to check other cars around you and OWWWW!  You get a pain in your chest.  You get anxious and do not breathe well and ask yourself "Am I having a heart attack?"

Well probably not but if you really think that you are here are the signs and heed them.  Pull over to the side of the road if you can and call 911. DEFINITELY - DO NOT HESITATE - GET HELP!  NOW!

But maybe you know it is a pulled muscle or spasm and you still need to be driving.  Here is a little tip to help take that tension out of your shoulder blade (scapula) that can radiate to your chest.  Then you can continue on without too much worry and more importantly distraction from the road.  Driving is a HUGE responsibility, not just for you and the people in your car but for others driving on the road.  You have a over a ton of volume plus velocity under your control so be safe, sane and responsible.

And if you are on your cell phone or texting you are just being - a DANGER for everyone so STOP IT!

Anyway - here is the rest of my tip.  BE SAFE PLEASE.

I hope that helps!

EMOTIONAL EATING - SILENCING THE HUNGRY HEART

USE THIS ACU-POINT TECHNIQUE SO THAT YOU DON'T OVER-STUFF YOURSELF.  I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE POSTED THIS LAST THURSDAY FOR THANKSGIVING BUT I AM KIND OF SIDE-TRACKED IN BUENOS AIRES.

Are you an emotional eater?  When you feel stressed do you reach for food?  Do you feel that if you just ate a "little" bit more that hollow feeling would be filled and satisfied?  It doesn't really work that well now does it?  Let me give you an acu-point that can ease that hollow empty feeling so you don't need to use the binge and destroy tactic.

In this short video I demonstrate how to use an acu-point technique that is simple and effective.  Check it out.

And here is an excerpt from my book "Acupressure for Balanced Weight."

CV 12 is also known as REN 12 or the Sea of Nutritive Energy. This point aids in the assimilation of food, eases lethargy and fatigue, eases symptoms of nausea, vomiting, hiccups, and an acid taste in the mouth. It helps to move food quickly and efficiently through the digestive system and breaks through obstructions to relieve gas, cramping, bloating and stomachaches. It helps to resolve dampness and phlegm in the digestive tract, muddled thinking, slurred speech, forgetfulness, dull throbbing headaches and sinus stuffiness.

CV 12 is located in the pit of the stomach mid-way between your navel and the lower end of your breastbone. A good way to measure would be to place your hand horizontally across your abdomen with your baby finger on your navel. CV 12 is located just above your index finger. Press in very gradually angling upwards until you feel a lump or a knot. Hold for a minute or two and breathe deeply.

Often we feel an discomfort at CV 12 or an emptiness, not only when we are hungry for food, but also when we are hungry in spirit. This discomfort or emptiness is often medicated with food. We try to fix this feeling by eating or overeating. Acupressure can help release the tension that is there and rebalance the system. Relieving the tension by pressing in on this point is a far better solution than overeating.

Excess worry can also create tension here. Excess worry and over-thinking is an imbalance of the Earth element. Find CV 12, breathe deeply, press and release the worry, anxiety and fear.

When you eat less you may feel a hollowness in your stomach or an empty feeling. Utilizing this Acu-point can help alleviate the achy feeling by making the area feel comfortably filled. In addition, pressing at CV 12 tones the abdominal muscles.

Utilize this Point Before You Eat.

COUGH SUPPRESSION - CHOP THAT COUGH

I am sure that this has happened to you.  You have a cold with a nagging cough and it interrupts your ability to communicate.  You need to stop chatting on the phone or presenting in a meeting.  I posted several weeks ago about what to do about the first onset of a cough to boost your system before it goes too deep.  You can find that post HERE.  But this situation is different.  The cough is already deep and down right annoying.  What can you do about it?  KARATE CHOP IT!

In this short video I demonstrate a really nifty technique to quell the need to cough in a pinch.  It was taught to me many years ago by a Japanese bodywork instructor.

You do not have to be so precise in the location of the acupuncture points because by hitting the two meridians or channels of energy you give the electrical circuitry an energetic jolt.  If you really want precise points look to these graphics below.  The specific points are LU 6 and LI 7 but chopping the areas work just fine.

I hope that helps!

TRAVEL ANXIETY - LAUGH AND PUT A PEA ON IT

In just a few days I will be traveling again. This time I will be flying to South America for a three month tour teaching and playing. Trust me, I will be using many of my own Super Duper Tips while I am en-route. From where I am in Massachusetts to where I will be staying in the city of Buenos Aires it is usually about 24 hours door to door. With cramped airplane seating, awful plane food, bad and drying air, pressure changes and of course going from freezing temperatures to a glorious 80 F (I am a warm weather person) I will need many of my "tricks of the trade" to keep balanced and cheerful. Luckily I am going north to south so I will not need to deal with jet lag, but if you are traveling east/west/east here is a link to a pretty good PDF on using acupressure for jet lag.

So what are my BE BEST tips for flying especially from cold and dry conditions to hot and humid? PEAS! Yes peas. No, not to eat, to use on your acu-points in flight. Let me explain.

Men and women, but especially women have a tendency to blow up like balloons in hot and humid weather. It can make us feel so uncomfortable that it ruins our travel experience for the first few days after arrival. We retain water all over our body and this in turn affects our physical comfort and our emotional tolerance.  By taping a split pea on an acu-point on the foot water retention can be relieved and we can feel great when landing. I know that I covered this tip in a previous post but it is worth noting again. I definitely will be using this tip this week. I am going to link to the previous post so that you can check it out in full. WATER RETENTION POST

The next tip is also really great.  If you don't use it on yourself you may need to use it on a fellow passenger that has a fear of flying (anxiety), or a child seated near you that's crying (more anxiety – learn this and you will be a goddess to the other passengers), or someone with air sickness or a queasy stomach. The acu-point that I am talking about is my favorite and most useful point for travel. It is Pericardium 6, P6 and it works like magic. The pericardium is the double-walled sac containing the heart.

P6 is located two to three finger widths above the crease of your wrist in the middle of your arm. It's where your watch band hits. It's used for air, sea, car, motion, and morning sickness. There's a product on the market that you can buy at your drug store that utilizes P6 for these symptoms. They are called SEABANDS. They are inexpensive and easy to use. You can also simply tape some split peas (round side to the skin, flat side to the tape) to your wrist points.  And if you don't have any peas available you can apply pressure with your finger.

The reason why the symptoms of anxiety, nausea and shallow breathing manifest is because the body is in "hyper state of diaphragm". The diaphragm moves up and down when you breathe. In times of stress most people do not take deep relaxing breaths. Their breathing is done high in the chest putting pressure on the pericardium.  The diaphragm doesn't move fully in its range. This anatomical energy block results in all those uncomfortable symptoms and several more. The way to reduce the symptoms is to release the pressure by using the P6 point while breathing very deeply in and out. Laughter can be a great way to facilitate deep breathing. Breathe in and belly laugh ALL THE WAY OUT and do it again, and again, and again.  Soon people around you will join in.

If you are in a chronic "hyper state of diaphragm" look to see if there is a Laughter Yoga group near you. I am a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and I highly recommend laughing your way to health.  Check out this short video from Robert Rivest and view the other great videos on his you tube channel.

BOOST SELF ESTEEM WITH SELF TALK

Do you need a pick-me-up? No I am not talking about a cup of coffee.  I am talking about an emotional and psychological lift.

Are you feeling a bit stressed, a little down, frazzled, overwhelmed or not feeling good about yourself?  Are you in need of some good positive self-talk?  Well here you go.  This is my gift to you.  It is a free video called Lift-Me-Up.  It is an audio of affirmations to boost your self esteem and set you back on track.  And because all the relaxation cues have been removed you can listen to this audio anywhere and at anytime.

Here is the description from the CD insert.  And yes - that is my voice.

"Lift-Me-Up Imprinting is a Take-Along Pick-Me-Up.

Be Ever-Young’s Lift-Me-Up is a powerful goal-imprinting session. The audio program consists of affirmations or positive statements that when used repeatedly, can recondition your subconscious mind at a deep level, turning negative thoughts into ones that can positively change your reality.

Beauty truly is not simply skin deep. How you feel on the inside is reflected on the outside. Scowl lines around the eyes and forehead come from inner tension. A tight jaw can lead not only to a "hard" look but also to teeth grinding and clenching. Creating a mindset of peacefulness will help "soften" inner and outer tension and help bring your inner beauty out.

Why goal-imprinting with positive statements? Well you see, your reality is defined not just in your outlook, we have all heard "think positive," rather, it’s defined in what you actually experience in your life. It’s rarely enough to think positively, it’s so much easier said than done. Our conscious minds block our wishes to affect permanent and lasting changes. This is why audio programs and repetition can help. By listening and then repeating statements over and over again, you actually bypass the critic of the conscious mind and affect the subconscious mind, the part that controls everything, your emotions, your thoughts, your actions, your body chemistry, and the energy that you magnetize to yourself.

You can truly shine from the inside without consciously thinking about it.

You may use Lift-Me-Up Imprinting anywhere and at anytime, while gardening, doing the dishes, taking a walk, or even driving an automobile. Suggestions for deep relaxation have been omitted. It is also very effective to work with these statements while you are comfortable, relaxed and very much at ease. If you do grind your teeth, listening to this audio program prior to drifting to sleep may help reduce that tendency to clench.

Experience Beauty from the Inside Out.

Lift-Me-Up Imprinting is just one part of this fantastic, integrated and very effective program. It is a collection of quick pick-me-up affirmations designed to reinforce positive images and infuse you with a sense of security and beauty. Enjoy Inner Beauty Imagery during quieter moments and Lift-Me-Up anytime."

This audio track is inspired by Be Ever-Young (The Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift) Program and Workshop.  Watch a video about the workshop.

A SCREAMING PAIN - SOOTHING VOICE STRAIN

Now that Halloween is over are you finding your throat a bit raspy from all the screaming in haunted houses or watching horror movies?  Or maybe you have been yelling during the World Series (congratulations Boston Red Sox!) or these autumn days of football.  Or maybe like me your passion is talking for hours speaking in front of audiences. Well I have another Super Duper Tip to help relax your throat muscles and help them heal up.  Singers take note!

The acu-point to use is called TH 3 or TW 3 (triple heater or triple warmer). It is important to note that this point is used for voice strain and not for a sore throat due to a cold or virus.  Sorry, but it will not work for that.  It is specifically for the discomfort from over working your voice singing, screaming, shouting, yelling and speaking.  The point is very simple to find.  It is located between your ring finger and your baby finger just past the knuckle on the back of your hand.

You can lightly pinch between your fingers to stimulate the point or use your fingertip to genttly rub the top of your hand.  Either hand will do just fine.

So there you go, another quick and easy tip to help you feel better and keep you out of the medicine chest.  For more tips keep checking the blog.  And SHOUT US OUT to your friends.  You can follow the posts by email using the link on the top right sidebar.  Check out the youtube channel and of course visit BEBEST.COM for more information on Patricia's International Wellness Workshops.

INSOMNIA (PART 2) BUZZED

In the previous post INSOMNIA (PART 1) OBSESSION I wrote about sleeplessness due to thinking too much.  I noted a technique to calm the mind by using the OBSESSION POINTS.  If you are running the day over and over in your head those are the points to use.  Check out the post.

Now if you are trying to sleep but you feel wired as if you had too much caffeine even though you did not have any then these points can help you.   That wired feeling is an adrenal problem and there are points to soothe that buzz.

When you are in bed pull yourself into the fetal position.  You need to be able to reach your ankle, either ankle, it does not matter.  Behind the medial malleolus (the big bump on your ankle on the inside) in the space between it and the Achilles tendon is a point called Joyful Sleep or Kidney 6, K 6.  It is in the depression of the lower border of the medial malleolus.  This is a master point for strengthening the adrenal glands.  When you feel wired your stress hormones are kicking in.  Instead of taking a chill pill what you need to do is get your adrenal glands more regulated so that the adrenaline does not surge at inappropriate times, as in bedtime.  Panic disorders can also be treated with this acu-point.

There is another point located on the opposite side of the ankle called Calm Sleep or Bladder 62, BL 62.  It is in the depression directly below the external malleolus (the outside big bump).  To help you loosen the tension in your wire and fall into slumber, simply press on both points at once by pinching the back of your ankle.

If you cannot fall asleep because your partner is tossing and turning, find out why he/she is awake and apply pressure to their appropriate points.  Speak low and soft.  Tell them to take a few long slow deep abdominal breaths to induce the relaxation response then guide them to a beautiful place.  They will fall asleep in no time at all.

Acu-point therapy is an incredibly valuable tool for balancing body, mind and soul.  It is safe, easy to use and easy to learn AND you are not adding anything questionable to the stew.  There are many more points to investigate.  Remember to take care of yourself first.  You can’t care well for others when you are out of balance.  It is not a selfish thing, it a sensible approach to living life happily, healthfully and to it’s fullest.

INSOMNIA (PART 1) OBSESSION

Can’t get to sleep at night?  Do you find yourself lying in bed for hours unable to let it all go and doze off?  Are you worried that your next day’s performance will suffer?  Do you finally give up and take a sleeping pill?  A great many people do, and what often happens is that they wake up after too little good quality sleep and with too much pill still in them.  They go through the day all grogged out wondering if simply staying awake all night and not taking a sleep aid would have been better in the long run.

Acu-point therapy can not only wake you up but it can also help ease you to sleep.  Even the most skeptical of my scientific friends have to admit that this technique truly works.

Here in the West when we can’t sleep we reach to put something into our body that will fix the problem.  It can be a pharmaceutical, an herb, even melatonin.  We add more to the stew. However, insomnia is NOT the problem.  It is merely a sign and a symptom of the problem.  In  acu-point therapy an important question is asked; “Why are you not sleeping?”  Your response might be, “Well if I knew THAT then I WOULD be sleeping.”  But would you?  Have you ever asked yourself exactly what you are feeling as you lie there in bed?  There are different reasons why you cannot sleep and therefore different acu-points to help unblock the stuck energy and soothe the spirit.

The next time you cannot fall to sleep easily ask yourself these very important questions.  “Am I unable to sleep because I am going over and over the day in my head unable to turn off my thoughts?”  Or maybe, “Am I unable to sleep because I feel wired, as if I had a wake-up pill or ingested too much caffeine even though I did not.”

These are two completely different reasons for sleeplessness yet most people don’t ask the questions and resort to a magic pill cure-all.  Forget the pills and address the cause so that you can drift off to sleep at ease.  These points can also be used on a sleepless partner.  There should be a third question.  “Am I unable to sleep because my partner is tossing and turning and keeping me awake?”  (If he/she is snoring that is a classic adrenal problem which I will address in a future post.)  You can apply these techniques to a sleepless partner very easily.

If you said yes to the first question, the situation where you are running the day over and over in your head, then the acu-point that you should use is Spirit Gate or Heart 7, HT 7.  It’s extremely easy to find and very accessible.   It is located on your wrist crease in line with your smallest finger.  There is another point very close by, Big Mound or Pericardium 7, P 7.  It is located on the wrist crease in the center.  You can use both of these points at the same time by placing your thumb across the crease starting at the center and covering HT 7.

I call this point combination the OBSESSION POINTS.  Isn’t that what you are doing, obsessing about things and thinking too much?  In Oriental Medicine the Heart is where our spirit lives, the Shen.  It is from the Shen or Heart that we view the world and create emotion.  Our cardio-vascular system relates to the Pericardium.

If the second question holds true for you, not being able to sleep because you feel wired, then a different point combination should be used.  This is an adrenal problem.  Stay tuned for INSOMNIA (PART 2) BUZZED.

DON'T BE A DUMMY - LIFT UP YOUR PUPPET FACE

Note:  Happy Anniversary to the BeBestBlog.  We have been posting for one month and now have readers in 16 countries!!!   Keep passing these great tips along.  Thank You for checking in.

In the workshop Be Ever-Young - the Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift I teach a segment called "What Your Face Says About You" (Oriental Visual Diagnosis).  One thing I mention is Puppet Face.  Puppet face is a term used for the vertical lines on either side of the mouth that appear as a women gets older.  In Traditional Chinese Medicine this area reflects the state of the reproductive system, more specifically the ovaries. The closer a woman is to menopause the deeper the lines become. Be Ever-Young's Facial Renewal Exercises and the Acupressure Face-Lift Routine can aid immensely in keeping the area toned and the energy freely moving. It is however, a tough battle to fight.

I have found in years of clinical work that my clients who have had a hysterectomy or were forced into an early menopause quickly developed these puppet face lines.  Learning the Facial Renewal Exercises and the Acupressure Routine and performing them regularly will help keep you from looking like a "wooden dummy".

Here’s a Bonus Facial Renewal Exercise that you can do whenever you stop at a red light.  It helps pull up the muscles on the side of the mouth.

The Snarl

50 repetitions

With your face relaxed lift up your top right lip as if in a snarl. Try to touch your lip to the top of your ear. Hold for 3 seconds and repeat. Do the same on the left side.

One side of your face will move easier than the other. Most of us tend to have a dominant side. You may actually have to hold one side down with your fingers and really concentrate on the movement on your non-dominant side. Since it is preferable to have a symmetrical face you should always try to do more repetitions on the weaker side.

What Your Face Says About You is just one segment of the Be Ever-Young - the Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift workshop.  Other segments include:  An explanation of how the face is structured differently than the rest of the body, Facial Renewal Exercises, the Acupressure Face-Lift, and an Inner Beauty Guided Imagery Session.  You can find the Inner Beauty Guided Imagery session on my youtube channel.  Have Fun!

CHI - QI - KI MADE INCREDIBLY SIMPLE

The concept of CHI (energy) made incredibly simple.

YOUR BODY IS A MINI SUBWAY SYSTEM

One of my specialties is teaching in analogy. Complicated concepts can be made very simple as demonstrated in this video. This is part of a radio interview with former US Ambassador Al Adams on radio URBANAFM 89.5 Buenos Aires, Argentina. Join us while we laugh and play with the concepts of energy and chi.  It is informative, it's simple and IT'S FUN!  Come laugh and learn with us.

You are the body electric!. Keep those cars moving!

The workshop Relief At Your Fingertips goes so much further than this short slide video.  The longer radio version is available on the side bar by clicking into the URBANAFM LOGO.  The full workshop teaches you so many more techniques to help you stay out of the medicine cabinet, out of the doctor's office and to keep you from spending a fortune on pills and potions to feel better.  It is not a cure-all.  It is simply a big help to get you feeling your BEST.

YOU PIERCED WHAT?

Do you need to wake up your whole body and get moving?  Try pulling on your ears in all directions. There's a special type of acu-point therapy called auricular acupuncture or ear acupuncture.  Each ear has more than 150 points corresponding to every part of the body.  By massaging your ears or pulling on them in all directions you are stimulating your entire body's energetic system.

I have an ear chart and bring it with me when I teach certain workshops.  I love how the artist not only placed the points on the chart but also small drawings of body parts.

Years ago when I had this chart hanging on the wall of one of my offices I laughed so hard as a young couple stared at it intensely.  The woman kept looking at the chart then looking at her boyfriend's ear, then looking at the chart again.  Finally she spoke, “Hon, how's your elbow?”  Her boyfriend had ear piercings.  The studs went right through the points for his elbow.

Which brings up another point that I cover in the Relief At Your Fingertips Workshop.  Piercing through an acupuncture point permanently changes the energy.  When I was four years old I had my tonsils removed. Later in the 7th grade I had my ears pierced.  By the time I was in my early 20's I had grown half of my tonsils back.  My earrings go right through the points for the tonsils.

So treat those ears well.  Massage and stimulate them regularly and bring renewed energy to your whole body.  And be careful.  Consider well where you put that next piercing.  The belly button relates to your entire immune system.

And a little side note: When I was in school for Traditional Chinese Medicine I had an herbology teacher from China who used to say, "Pull on your ears, make you rich.  Look at Ross Perot, look at Rockefeller.  They have big ears and they're very rich."  I'm pulling !!!!!!

YOU LOOK "ALMOST" MARVELOUS

Earlier this week I awoke early as I had a client meeting. I had not seen her in several months. I showered and dressed and put a on bit of makeup (I wear very little, very little) and headed off to the appointment. My face felt a bit tight from my sleeping hours. I looked ALMOST MARVELOUS. I needed to PERK IT UP a bit more. In a previous post I noted an overall point on the face to PERK IT UP but I was driving a stick shift so I couldn't use the Acupressure Face-Lift point. I needed both hands to drive. Instead I used a powerful Facial Renewal Exercise that I teach in the Be Ever-Young Workshop. Maybe I should have saved it for a Halloween post.  It is scary.   But it works!

*****
The Horror Movie Scream
5 repetitions
Take a deep breath in and upon exhaling open your mouth and your eyes as wide as you can until all the air is expelled from your body. Relax for a breath or two and repeat.

Beware, exercises like this one can scare people and pets, but oh, they feel wonderful! If it is appropriate, go ahead and scream, LOUD!!  Let it all out.

*****
I love this video from several years ago but I must disagree Billy/Fernando... “It is not how you feel, it's how you look.” NAH! You need to FEEL MARVELOUS from the inside out and then you will really look MARVELOUS.

Do all of the Facial Renewal Exercises taught in the workshop plus the Acupressure Face-Lift Routine and experience the Inner Beauty guided imagery session and you will LOOK MARVELOUS too.

Laugh and be happy! The key to looking good is FEELING good.

By the way my client saw me and said "YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!"  Laugh and BE WELL, BE BEST!

Enjoy your weekend!

PS:  You can find the Inner Beauty Guided Imagery session on my youtube channel.  Have Fun!

PERK UP YOUR FACE!

An extremely important part of the Be Ever-Young - The Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift workshop is the Acupressure Face-Lift Routine. I developed my version of the routine after certifying as an Asian Bodywork Therapist.  I always topped off a therapeutic shiatsu session with a face-lift.  My clients adored it.  When I put together the Be Ever-Young program I simply had to include it.

The actions are a specific routine that works downward from the top of the head to the neck.  The direction is important as you are releasing tension and toxins down into the lymphatic system.  Workshop participants learn the routine while coloring in a face chart to refer to after the workshop is over.

Over the course of the years facilitating the Be Ever-Young Workshop I have had so many happy women comment to me that after the Acupressure Routine Segment their plugged sinuses are clear, their TMJ doesn't ache, their eye sight seems sharper and their whole face feels lighter.

I am not going to post the full routine from my book here but I don't want to tease you either.  Let me give you one overall point that you can use anytime during the day or night to revive the energy of your face.  It certainly cannot replace the full routine or the entire workshop but it can act like a mini pick-me-up.

The acu-point is ST 3.  It is located just below the center of each eye below the cheekbone.  This point is often known as Facial Beauty or Great Seam.   It is the crossing point of the Stomach meridian and one of the eight extraordinary vessels.  The point can be a bit tender.  Lightly press on this point for several seconds.  If the spot feels extremely tense you may also use a tiny, light circular motion.

NOTE:  This point can also help relieve clogged sinuses.

(The Acupressure Face-Lift is just one segment of the Be Ever-Young - the Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift workshop.  Other segments include:  An explanation of how the face is structured differently than the rest of the body, Facial Renewal Exercises, What Your Face Says About You (Oriental Visual Diagnosis), and an Inner Beauty Guided Imagery Session.)

Enjoy.  Be Well.  Be Best.

EXHAUSTED? WAKE UP!

WAKE UP!  It is Monday morning and I thought maybe you could use a little help.  Whether you are a student beginning a week of classes, a person working in an office or anyone needing to get going but still sit still here is a great little yet powerful tip for you.

(An excerpt from Patricia's book “POWER POINTS - How to Press Your Points NOT Push Your Buttons” copyright 1999.  A perfect book to accompany the workshop Relief at Your Fingertips.)

"Before we go too far in the learning process, there is one Power Point that I want to introduce you to. So often I speak at times of the day or in the evening when people have just eaten. By the time they settle in for a presentation all the blood that should be providing their brains with oxygen and clarity has been re-directed to their bellies to digest their meals. People feel tired, even sleepy. Soon after I begin my presentation, in about another half an hour or so, the yawning begins. No, it’s not the material, and I hope it is not the presenter. What it is is simple body chemistry, blood sugars or fatigue. Therefore, the very first Acu technique that I want to present to you is all about bringing yourself back up from exhaustion. This Power Point can wake you up and get your circulation flowing throughout your entire body while sitting still. The point can actually be used for loss of consciousness.

This Power Point is called Labor’s Palace or Pericardium 8.  We abbreviate the name down to P 8. It’s located in the center of your palm. Use the tip of your thumb and press in, then PUMP it. Just press and release, press and release, press and release. It’s like doing CPR on the palm of your hand. This point can also help overcome sunstroke. It’s absolutely fabulous when you simply have to stay awake. I call Pericardium 8 the EXHAUSTION POINT.

In anatomical terms the pericardium is the sack that surrounds the heart. In Oriental Medicine the points along the Pericardium pathway access the cardio-vascular system. Pumping P 8 literally pumps your cardio system up. You become more awake as your blood gets moving while sitting still.

If you are a manager that schedules morning meetings with your sleepy staff, show them this trick. Although you may be tempted to grab their hands and pump them up yourself, it’s best to keep your hands to yourself. Demonstrate the technique for them and then, if they ever seem sleepy or begin to yawn during a meeting or presentation simply get their attention, look them right in the eye, put your thumb to the center of your palm and PUMP. They’ll learn the signal, will follow along and wake themselves up.

How many people do you know that depend on coffee or colas to keep their eyes open? You might be one of them.  I used to be. I am sure that it’s no surprise to hear that the caffeine in those drinks can make you incredibly jittery, nervous, anxious, it can keep you awake at night and it also can be extremely addictive. In addition, it weakens your adrenal glands. Over time the adrenals can become so weak that they don’t regulate the hormones that they produce properly. This can lead to inappropriate bursts of adrenaline and subsequent unexplained panic attacks.  Instead of resorting to caffeine to PUMP yourself up you now have a Power Point to do it without any debilitating side effects."

Have a wonderful healthy week.  Be Well.  Be Best!

DANGEROUS EYES! ARE YOU BURNING OUT?

Look at these stock photos. All the models are showing the same sign of inner health and it isn't a good one  Professional model makeup could not cover it up.  Do you see it?  It is not their smile.  It is...

 ADRENAL BURN-OUT EYES

(From the “What Your Face Says About You” Segment of the Be Ever-Young - The Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift Workshop.)

The colorings under the eyes are very telling. You know what they look like when you have missed a good night's sleep. Often there is a bluish cast under the whole eye. A little rest should clear that up. I rarely worry about that one. The coloring that truly makes me worry is blue/black. It lays in the corners under the eye by the bridge of the nose.

What is adrenal burn-out and why is it so dangerous? Your adrenal glands get weakened by mental, emotional and physical stress, improper lifestyle, stimulants (yes like caffeine and nicotine) and certain foods. Modern day life burns women out faster and deeper than men as we often try to do everything. The adrenals are very important because they produce and regulate several key hormones such as the ones that quell inflammation, regulate sleep, balance our minerals and tell us when to fight or take flight. If these glands are not regulating correctly you end up with a depleted immune system, inflammations, illnesses and panic attacks. Oh and some of the many other discomforts surrounding menopause and peri-menopause; HOT FLASHES and NIGHT SWEATS. The adrenal glands are the back up to the ovaries for the sex hormones. This blue/black in the corner of the eyes is a serious sign to take action and make some changes NOW.

In future posts I will write about more facial visual clues to your inner health.  Stay tuned...

WHAT YOUR FACE SAYS ABOUT YOU

Your face says a great deal about you.  It's true that we communicate how we are feeling to the rest of the world through our expressions.  Our face color, wrinkles and marks also say a lot about our health. Learning to read the face will clue you into which organ systems are energetically and/or physically weak. Once you understand the underlying condition often signaled in the facial colorings, you can go about correcting diet and lifestyle to bring yourself back into better balance.

In the Be Ever-Young - The Natural Non-Surgical Face-Lift Workshop I teach a segment on "What Your Face Says About You"  (Oriental Visual Diagnosis).  After people attend the workshop they look at others in a completely new way.  In future blog posts I will map out key facial features that reflect your inner health.  Stay tuned...

FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE FOR COLDS

I wasn't going to make a post today but something came up for me and I just had to share.  The weather is changing in New England.  It is getting chilly at night then the temperatures are up and down during the day.  School has started.  Vacations are over and we are around more people in closer spaces with closed windows.  That means we are sharing the indoor air and spreading respiratory germs.  I awoke with a FOGHORN COUGH so I took QUICK action.

Here is a very impromptu Super Duper Quick Tip video for you.  Use this fantastic tip as soon as you feel that little tickle, experience that wheeze or hear that special cough.  You will be very glad that you did.

I cover so many more acu-points and techniques in the workshop Relief at Your Fingertips  Let me know what is important to you and I will do my best to post helpful information here on the blog.

Here is a drawing of LU 11 to help you out.  Check back often, search the blog and visit BEBEST.COM for more info and videos.

Enjoy your healthy week ahead.

BE HAPPY, BE HEALTHY, BE BEST.

RELIEVING WATER RETENTION AND FATIGUE

Do you feel fatigued or like you are dragging?  Or maybe you're uncomfortable from water retention.  I have a tip for you that you are really going to like.

Before I trained in acu-point therapy I used to suffer each winter when I flew to the heat and humidity of Florida.  Often I had only one week to visit family.  Usually the first half of my stay I felt like I had blown up like a balloon, a very uncomfortable and crabby water balloon.  It took days to get my body to adjust.  I experienced so much wasted time feeling bloated and fatigued.  Now I always use this fantastic little tip and never suffer.

On the bottom of each foot is an acu-point named Gushing Spring or Kidney 1.  This point is not only used for edema (water retention) but it also connects into the adrenal glands and can help energize you.  At night you can massage the point before sleeping and it helps you relax and sleep soundly.  That sounds like a contradiction but it isn't.  Acu-point therapy helps to regulate the glands and organs so the body does what it is supposed to do, when it is supposed to do it.

And now here is your tip:  Go into the kitchen, open up the cabinet and take out that package of split peas that you have had sitting in there for years.  You only need two split peas.  Split peas are hard and fairly uniform, flat on one side and curved on the other.  They make perfect acu-pressure tools.  Now that you have your pressure peas go to the medicine cabinet and get some medical tape.  Put the flat side of the pea on a piece of tape and place the rounded side on Gushing Spring (see photo for location).  Rub the tape down so it sticks well to the bottom of your foot.  Do this to both feet.  Each step that you take will stimulate the point.  Since Kidney 1 aids in releasing water retention you may find yourself needing the bathroom more often than usual.  I apply the peas while on the plane before landing at my hot and humid destination.  It works like a charm.  I don't arrive bloated and tired  I arrive full of energy thanks to my Acu-Peas TO GO.

This is just one of the many points and techniques I teach in the Relief at Your Fingertips Workshop.  It's a great trick of the trade. You can keep the peas on for two days at most then please remove them.  You don't want the body to get too accustomed to the pressure.  Drink plenty of good, fresh, clean water to replenish yourself and help washed the old gunky water away.
